Director Statement

Anja Høvik Strømsted’s song “Pa” was written for her dad, who passed away in July 2023. We created a video about a young girl below starry skies to visualize the tender relationship and emotional state that’s being sung about. It’s about unconditional love, music, art, nature, and the place where clocks have stopped, tears dropped, and where we are together with our missed loved ones, existing in the forms of rose, snow, and feather, as the song goes, and dove, hawk, and crow. The girl among the flowers embodies the spiritual reality experienced in moments of great love, sorrow, faith, and meditative and artistic fulfillment. We sincerely hope this music video about the young solitary girl below the starry sky will touch others who have lost their parents or loved ones.

Anja Høvik Strømsted is an author, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary artist born in Oslo. She has studied Creative Writing at Telemark College University and Gothenburg University Valand School of Fine Arts and Film production (M.F.A.) at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. She has produced works of fiction, short and feature films, animation films, music and music videos, photography, and visual arts that have won prizes and screened in India, Germany, the U.S., Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, and Norway among other countries. The duo Strømsted and Hurst has made numerous projects since 2012. They also run the literary press S & H Press and the film production company Flipsnip Films and Hurst Production.

Jasmin Hurst gained her MFA in Fine Arts from Trondheim Art Academy and a Diploma from Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences and Hiroshima Art Academy. Her work has won prizes and has been screened and exhibited in Germany, Japan, Egypt, Norway, India, the US, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, and Italy, among other countries. The duo Strømsted and Hurst has made shorts, features and animation films, and numerous music videos and art projects since 2012. They also run the literary press S & H Press and the film production company Flipsnip Films and Hurst Production.
