Artist statement
This is a series of abstract drawings with pen and dry pastel inspired by brain activity, how ADHD brains are generally wired, and what symptoms these differently wired brains cause, such as impulsivity, inattention, hyperactivity, disorganization, and a typically chaotic head. Brain scientists have found that deficiencies in specific neurotransmitters underlie many common disorders, including anxiety, mood disorders, and anger-control problems. The colorful brain scans of such brains show sleepy and active areas, and the thought pattern is more often undisciplined, chaotic, noisy, and intrusive. Inspired by color brain scans and thought patterns of neurodivergent individuals comes a series of chaotic and hyperactive abstract drawings, sometimes with words and sounds attached to the strokes.
