Strømsted & Hurst, Photography collage, 2023

Artist Statement: Through mixing human skin with other materials in extreme close-ups put together in collages, we take a closer look at themes like humanity, modern identity, Western culture, consumption, and beauty today. We mix cultural references with personal meanings and identity, political reaction with poetic surrealism, creating abstractions of the human body and alien substance to ask questions of what it means to be human today.

Anja Høvik Strømsted is an author, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary artist born in Oslo. She has studied Creative Writing at Telemark College University and Gothenburg University Valand School of Fine Arts and Film production (M.F.A.) at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. She has produced works of fiction, short and feature films, animation films, music and music videos, photography, and visual arts that have won prizes and screened in India, Germany, the U.S., Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, and Norway among other countries. The duo Strømsted and Hurst has made numerous projects since 2012. They also run the literary press S & H Press and the film production company Flipsnip Films and Hurst Production.

Jasmin Hurst gained her MFA in Fine Arts from Trondheim Art Academy and a Diploma from Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences and Hiroshima Art Academy. Her work has won prizes and has been screened and exhibited in Germany, Japan, Egypt, Norway, India, the US, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, and Italy, among other countries. The duo Strømsted and Hurst has made shorts, features and animation films, and numerous music videos and art projects since 2012. They also run the literary press S & H Press and the film production company Flipsnip Films and Hurst Production.
